The tradition of Italian cooking is that of the matriarch. This is the cooking of grandma. She didn’t waste time thinking too much about the celery. She got the best celery she could and then she dealt with it. — Mario Batali

Product Review: Dark chocolate nutty bits from Trader Joe’s

While we were in Athens, GA visiting our relatives we stopped by the newly opened Trader Joe’s.  I wanted to see what they had to offer and we also wanted to help my in-laws learn how to effectively shop at the store.  Even though the store seems small there is so much in there to explore!

We stumbled upon a bag of dark chocolate nutty bits in the nut section and since it was clearly labeled with a ‘g’ into the cart it went.  The description on the bag is ‘sweet crunchy nuts, smooth dark chocolate and a hint of Fleur de Sel (fancy salt).  The nuts are kettle cooked in small batches, then dipped in rich, dark chocolate and sprinkled with just a touch of Fleur de Sel, for a decadent bundle of flavor in a salty treat.

The bag has multiple bite size clusters of dark chocolate covered nuts that are crunchy, sweet and slightly salty, which are all of my favorite textures wrapped in one burst of flavor.  One serving size is three pieces, but just one was enough to satisfy my craving for something sweet.  These would make a great stocking stuffer or Christmas gift and will definitely become a staple in my pantry.

We just love that Trader Joe’s continues to add gluten-free offerings to its product line.  Some of the local stores cater to their gluten-free customers by holding gluten-free tours and tastings.

Ingredients: nut crunch (almonds, cashews, pumpkin seeds, pistachios, organic evaporated cane juice, rice syrup, sea salt), dark chocolate (cocoa mass, sugar, cocoa butter, soy lecithin, natural vanilla flavor, sea salt, cocoa solids 60% minimum.
